The 2024 canoe slalom season has been excellent for the Latvian Canoe Association – thrilling competitions, high-quality results, a growing number of participants, the international NordicCup, a large number of supporters … the list goes on. However, it was this past weekend in Valmiera that the results of all the hard work could truly be seen – great competitions, fantastic participants, a sporting atmosphere, beautiful autumn weather, and smiles on people’s faces.

The 2024 Nordic Cup Latvian stage in canoe slalom welcomes athletes from all host countries in Valmiera.

Last weekend, the Valmiera “Krāces” canoeing track hosted the Latvian stage of the Nordic Cup 2024 in canoe slalom. The conditions for organizing an event of this level in Valmiera were nearly ideal – water level, track preparation, athlete performance, and weather conditions were all excellent. Both the dynamic Slalom Sprint discipline at the beginning of the competition and the Extreme Slalom, in addition to the two Nordic Cup stages, did not disappoint the spectators.

Valmiera hosts the NordicCup 2024 stages in canoe slalom.

This weekend, Valmiera will host the NordicCup canoe slalom series. Revived since 2021, the Latvian stages take place annually at the “Krāces” sports complex. This year, the NordicCup offers us the full spectrum of this fast-water sport—two stages in the classic canoe slalom disciplines. The events will take place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (August 16-18, 2024)
