The 2024 canoe slalom season also pledges to be eventful. LCA athletes planning their activities for this year will have the opportunity to choose from various types of competitions to showcase their abilities in their familiar home streams, as well as to challenge themselves against neighboring countries and other European slalom athletes.
The LCA season will “kick off” with the General Physical Fitness competitions, a tradition associated with the leadership of the club Ozolnieki. In the annual physical fitness tests, each athlete’s off-season efforts will be evaluated, measuring the amount of sweat expended and the desire to improve physical abilities before getting into the boat and playing with the currents. As usual, the competitions will follow the Eirofit test standard and also include a 50m freestyle swim in the pool.
The active slalom season of LCA promises to begin with the Brīvo ūdeņu cup/Iecava Championship on April 13-14. There is information that “Higher Peter” has promised good weather and strong water this year, so athletes are advised to find their life vests and helmets. Aivars Eiduks is recommended to tighten the loops on his new C1 canoe and practice Eskimo rolls in the pool – OPPORTUNITY EXISTS – competitions in the pool in Kadrina, Estonia, on February 24.
In collaboration with the Estonian Canoe Federation, an active competition weekend is scheduled for May 18-19. This weekend The championships in Sindi and Valmiera are planned. The organizers may have even envisioned a surprise in the overall rankings for this weekend…
And the NordicCup 2024 canoeing season can begin! Right after the ECA Junior Cups in June, experienced boat masters will have the opportunity to try out the new racecourse in Taivalkoski, Finland, where the European Masters Championship took place last year. The stages in Finland (done) and Lithuania (in line)! Mark the beginning of this competition series under the leadership of the Latvian Canoe Association.
August will be a “hot” month for canoe slalom. The popular and prestigious Aldis Kļaviņš Cup, as usual, in its twenty-fourth year, will take place in the first weekend of August. All Extreme Kayak Cross fans can prepare their boats and paddles for these competitions (…and there wiil be more to come!). It’s worth mentioning that there’s a separate class for youngsters, with own final – HERE WE GO!
Already on August 17-18, the NordicCup 2024, Valmiera stages – 5&6, with Extreme Slalom and Slalom Sprint, will take place. We look forward to seeing if the people of Valmiera will be ready to compete with the world’s top athletes on their track!?
Where are the 3rd and 4th stages … oh yes, just a week before Valmiera, in the city of Sindi, the NordicCup Estonia stages. The new course are waiting for us!
A “Back to School Party” will start in early September with the Ādaži Championship on the renewed Gauja-Baltezera canal. Rumor has it that there have been cool competitions, so let’s continue! Valmiera will try to maintain the level and allow students to enjoy their return to school with a quality slalom in Kazu krāces same weekend.
Here are also the concluding stages of NordicCup 2024 in Falun, Sweden, on September 21-22. In Sweden, the winners of the overall standings will be awarded the traveling cups. We’ll see who will be the best in this European region this year – the question is open!
As usual, we look forward to the LCA season’s concluding races in Valmiera in the second weekend of October. Right before that, the Rīga Championship, which did not take place in 2023, but despite that, is undoubtedly one of the richest traditions in the long history of Latvian canoe slalom.
