On the weekend of May 24th, the canoe slalom competition season will resume in Valmiera with the long-awaited Valmiera Championship and the Gauja Cup. These will be the first races of the year on the Krāces slalom course, where water levels promise exciting and spectacular runs for both athletes and spectators.
At the heart of the event is the traveling Gauja Cup, which will be awarded to the overall winners in all boat classes. Will the previous titleholders — Renārs Freijs (K1M, Valmiera Sports School), Elizabete Kurvina (SK Atvars, Liepāja), Krišs Ozols (AK Straume, Valmiera), and Marie Peiker (SK Pirita, Estonia) — manage to defend their trophies, or will new champions emerge? The finals will reveal all.
Alongside, the Valmiera Championship titles will also be contested across various age groups — a strong motivator for both young talents and experienced athletes alike.
Organizers and supporters have ensured that there will be no shortage of excellent prizes for the winners and participants, adding even more motivation, excitement, and fierce competition on the course.
But the spirit of competition won’t be limited to Valmiera — the very next day, on May 25th, the Sindi Cup in canoe slalom will take place in Sindi, Estonia. Again this year, the best young athletes from both the Valmiera Championship and the Sindi Cup will compete for the prestigious Master of Two Rivers title and an attractive cash prize.
An intense and thrilling competition weekend awaits — for seasoned paddlers, rising stars, and all sports fans alike.
